Séminaire Luiz Machado : Cloud aerosol precipitation interaction in Amazonias

The presentation will cover the recent results obtained in the GoAmazon describing the gain of knowledge in the understandable of the interaction among Cloud-Aerosol-Precipitation (CAP) in the Amazonas Region. Taking advantage of the numerous instruments recording the cloud structure and environmental conditions, during the wet and dry season, it was possible to characterize important processes in the CAP interactions. We will cover the importance of the convection in the aerosol cycle and the production of large aerosol concentration in the upper troposphere. Another aspect will be the description of the effect of the Manaus pollution plume in the warm rain formation, the sensitivity of the updraft and aerosol concentration in the cloud droplet diameter, concentration and in the rainfall cloud drop distribution. The effect of aerosol on the updraft and rainfall will be discussed revisiting the convective invigoration theory, as well as the aerosol effect on the mixed layer of convective clouds. Finally, we will introduce the Gamma Space and present the CAP in the concept of trajectories inside this space.
